Consumer information corners

A consumer information corner - also referred to as a consumer rights corner, customer information point or consumer notice board - is a dedicated wall panel or free-standing display in retail premises that consolidates statutory information for consumers: business identification, opening hours, price lists on request, complaints handling contacts, allergen and product safety notices, and information on cooling-off rights for distance and off-premises purchases. Kyiv Stend manufactures modular consumer corners in Alucobond composite with clip-in transparent pockets, sized and configured for each Member State's local retail regulation.

What EU law requires

The EU does not impose a single "consumer corner" format on shops. Instead, several Directives require specific information to be made available to consumers. Retailers usually consolidate them on one panel for convenience of both staff and inspectors.

Directive / RegulationInformation to display
Directive 2011/83/EU (Consumer Rights Directive)For distance / off-premises sales - right of withdrawal, model withdrawal form, delivery cost, complaints handling contacts
Directive 98/6/EC (Unit Prices)Unit price per kg / litre / m displayed alongside the total selling price
Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 (Food Information to Consumers)Allergen information available in a written form near the point of sale for non-prepacked food
Directive 2005/29/EC (Unfair Commercial Practices)Contact details for consumer complaints and, where applicable, alternative dispute resolution bodies
Regulation (EU) No 524/2013 (Online Dispute Resolution)For traders selling online - electronic link to the ODR platform ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
Directive (EU) 2019/2161 ("Omnibus")Price reductions must reference the lowest price applied within the last 30 days
Directive 2001/95/EC (General Product Safety)Contact for product safety complaints and RAPEX-relevant notices

National laws in each Member State add specific formats. Common examples: Germany's Preisangabenverordnung, France's DDPP-mandated notices, Poland's ustawa o prawach konsumenta transparency requirements, Italy's Codice del Consumo (D.Lgs. 206/2005) point-of-sale disclosures. Kyiv Stend produces the physical panel; you or your legal advisor provides the exact text applicable to your country and business type.

Typical layout of a consumer corner

A standard configuration is a 600 x 800 mm Alucobond composite panel with:

  • Header - "Consumer Information" in the local language, plus business name and address;
  • 2 to 4 A4 clip-in transparent pockets for interchangeable documents (opening hours, price list, allergen list, complaints procedure);
  • 1 to 2 fixed printed sections - business licence number, contact for complaints, ADR body reference, ODR platform link;
  • Optional QR code linking to your website's terms and conditions / privacy policy for consumer reference.

Larger configurations (800 x 1200 mm, 1000 x 1500 mm) accommodate additional pockets - for example an A3 pocket for a printed complaints form, plus an A4 pocket for the annual data protection notice.

Ukrainian retail context

In Ukraine the historical requirement to keep a paper "Complaints and Suggestions Book" (Книга відгуків і пропозицій) was abolished by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 168 of 6 March 2019. Consumers now address complaints via the Consumer Rights Protection Service hotline 0-800-503-503, via the service's website, in writing, or via an electronic complaint. Ukrainian retailers no longer need this book on the panel. For EU retailers this element is not applicable at all - it is a specifically post-Soviet legacy that never existed in EU consumer law.

Materials

Panel materialPocketsBest for
Alucobond composite, 3 mmTransparent PET clip-in, A5 / A4 / A3Standard retail (shops, restaurants, service premises)

We do not use stainless steel. Panels are printed with UV-cured direct printing (5-year outdoor / 10-year indoor lifetime).

Modular vs single-piece

Two design approaches:

  1. Modular (recommended) - fixed printed headers and legal texts on the panel, plus clip-in transparent pockets for the documents that change (opening hours changes seasonally, allergen list changes with menu, price list rotates). The retailer replaces paper contents without ordering a new panel.
  2. Single-piece - full-panel UV print with all texts fixed. Simpler to install, but every content update requires a new panel. Good for small shops with static information.

How to specify a consumer corner

Send through the Request a Quote form:

  1. Country of installation (so we can align on the local Directive-specific texts);
  2. Business type (retail, hospitality, service, e-commerce pickup point);
  3. Panel size and orientation;
  4. Number and format of clip-in pockets (A5, A4, A3);
  5. Fixed printed sections you want on the panel (we can draft standard EU-level content, you approve national additions);
  6. Logo and branding elements;
  7. Wall type at installation site.

We produce artwork proof for your legal advisor to review before production. Lead time 5 to 8 working days for a single panel, 10 to 15 for a batch of 10+ (chain retailers). See Delivery Information for shipping timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Is a consumer corner legally required in every EU shop?

There is no single EU-wide rule requiring a specific "consumer corner". However, several Directives (Consumer Rights, Unit Prices, Food Information, Unfair Commercial Practices, General Product Safety) require various pieces of information to be available at the point of sale. In practice, most retailers consolidate them on one panel to simplify compliance and inspections. Exact content depends on your Member State - check with a local legal advisor.

Can you draft the legal texts for me?

We can provide EU-level template texts based on the Directives listed above (Directive 2011/83/EU, 98/6/EC, 1169/2011, 2005/29/EC, 524/2013, 2019/2161). Country-specific additions (national trade licence references, local ADR bodies, food regulator contacts, unit price format rules) must be verified with a local legal advisor. We do not act as a legal firm - our contribution is the physical panel.

Do you make consumer corners in local languages?

Yes. We produce in any Latin, Cyrillic or Greek script. Common single-language versions: German, French, Italian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Dutch, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Romanian, Greek, Croatian, Slovenian, Baltic languages. Bilingual panels (national language + English) are common in tourism zones.

Can I replace document pockets without buying a new panel?

Yes - that is the point of the modular design. Fixed printed sections stay on the Alucobond panel; the interchangeable content (opening hours, price list, allergen list, complaints procedure) goes into A4 / A3 clip-in transparent pockets. You replace the paper inside the pocket, the panel stays.

Do you make outdoor consumer notice panels?

Yes, on request. Outdoor panels use Alucobond composite (3 mm) with weather-resistant clip-in pockets (transparent PET with UV inhibitor). Suitable for entrance walls, terraces, market stalls. Warranty 3 years outdoor for the pocket transparency (UV yellowing), 10 years for the substrate.
