What a compliant Braille sign includes
A compliant tactile sign for an accessible building carries three layers of information on one plate: a visual text layer for sighted users, a raised tactile text layer for low vision users who read by touch (characters raised 1.0 to 1.5 mm above the surface), and a Grade 1 Braille layer for blind users. Each layer must meet geometry, contrast and placement rules defined in EN 17210:2021 (Accessibility of the built environment), ISO 21542:2021 (Accessibility and usability of the built environment) and ISO 17049:2013 (Braille dot geometry).
Why corner radius matters for Braille signs
Braille signs are read by touch. A visually impaired person moves a hand along the wall at waist to shoulder height to find the sign. The fingertips contact the sign edge first, before the Braille text. A sign with sharp 90 degree corners can injure fingers and palms, especially at speed. Rounded corners (minimum radius 3 to 5 mm) are a mandatory safety requirement in several EU national annexes to EN 17210 and are strongly recommended in all public and commercial premises. We offer both options, but rounded corners (R=5 mm) are standard for all signs intended for public accessibility routes (corridors, toilets, lifts, emergency exits).
Typical B2B order
A typical EU B2B order is 15 to 150 signs for a single building (office, hotel, hospital, school, museum, airport, train station, retail chain). Standard partition: toilet signs (men, women, accessible), room number signs (offices, cabinets), floor and lift signs, emergency exit signs, information panels (opening hours, no smoking). We prepare bilingual signs on request (national language plus English, or national language plus Ukrainian for Ukrainian diaspora offices). Braille follows the written text in each language.

Frequently asked questions
Which standards do your Braille signs comply with?
EN 17210:2021 (Accessibility of the built environment), ISO 21542:2021 (Accessibility and usability of the built environment), ISO 17049:2013 (Braille dot height and spacing). Grade 1 Braille is standard. Grade 2 (contracted Braille) is available on request.
Do you prepare a design proof before production?
Yes. After the price is approved we prepare a PDF proof and send it for your sign off. Production starts only after your written approval.
What is the minimum order quantity?
No minimum. We can produce a single sign. Pricing is more economical from batches of 5 pcs onwards. From 50 pcs the per unit price drops noticeably.
Can we order signs with our company logo?
Yes. The logo is UV printed on the same substrate. Send a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG) or a high resolution contrast PNG. The logo does not interfere with Braille reading because it is placed outside the tactile reading zone.
Can we order bilingual signs (national language plus English)?
Yes. This is a standard request for airports, hospitals and public buildings in the EU. Visual text plus Braille are produced in both languages on the same plate. Select multiple languages in the form and we will quote accordingly.
Why rounded corners R=5 mm instead of 90 degree corners?
Rounded corners are a safety requirement for signs on accessibility routes. A blind or low vision person feels for the sign along the wall. Sharp corners can cut fingers or palms. R=5 mm rounded corners are standard for all signs intended for public use and are strongly recommended by EN 17210 national annexes.
Can you ship to a country not listed on the website?
We ship across 26 EU member states (every state except Spain, which is served by our separate ES operation at kyivstend.com.ua/es). For non EU destinations please contact us. We handle them case by case.
How do EU VAT and customs work for the order?
The order is a B2B export from Ukraine (non EU country) to the EU. We issue an invoice with 0% VAT (export). Import VAT and customs clearance in the destination country are handled by the carrier (DHL, GLS, DPD) and billed to your company. For EU companies with a valid VAT number: include it in the request so we can prepare the correct paperwork.
